Country music legend Toby Keith has passed away at the age of 62 after battling stomach cancer for two years. The singer-songwriter, known for his patriotic songs like “Courtesy of the Red, White and Blue (The Angry American)” and “Made in America,” peacefully passed away on February 5th, surrounded by his family, according to a statement on his official website. Keith revealed his cancer diagnosis to fans in 2021 and underwent chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery to fight the disease. Despite his health struggles, he returned to the stage for a few concerts and made a TV appearance in September 2023, where he received the Country Icon award at the People’s Choice Country Awards. Keith’s final performances were in December 2023 in Las Vegas.

Born Toby Keith Covel on July 8, 1961, in Clinton, Oklahoma, Keith worked in the oil industry and played in the USFL football league before pursuing a career in music. He rose to fame with hits like “Should’ve Been a Cowboy” and “A Little Less Talk and a Lot More Action” from his self-titled debut album in 1993. Throughout his career, Keith wrote or co-wrote many of his songs, earning numerous awards and accolades, including the Academy of Country Music’s top male vocalist and album of the year award in 2001.
