Snoop Dogg and Master P’s company, Broadus Foods, has filed a lawsuit against Walmart and Post Foods, claiming that the companies worked together to prevent their Snoop Cereal from being sold to customers.

According to the complaint filed on Tuesday, Post allegedly did not treat their cereal equally to its own brands after reaching an agreement with the rappers’ company. The lawsuit also alleges that Walmart, where the cereal was launched in July 2023, kept boxes of the cereal in stockrooms for months without making them available to customers. Civil rights attorney Ben Crump is representing Snoop Dogg and Master P in the lawsuit.

“This case shows the challenges faced by minority-owned businesses in getting fair opportunities in the marketplace,” Crump said in a statement. “The actions by Post Foods and Walmart show disregard for minority entrepreneurs. If celebrities like Snoop Dogg and Master P are treated like this, imagine how smaller Black entrepreneurs are treated by big corporations.”

Broadus Foods, founded by Snoop Dogg and Master P in 2022, aims to provide affordable food for families through its brands, including Snoop Cereal and Momma Snoop.

The musicians approached Post to get Snoop Cereal on retail floors and entered an agreement to sell the brand. However, the lawsuit claims that Post did not treat Snoop Cereal equally to its own brands. Despite being an immediate success, the cereal was allegedly kept from reaching customers at Walmart.

Broadus Foods is seeking damages of over $50,000 for lost profits, marketing costs, and more, and is requesting a jury trial.

Master P stated at a media briefing that the lawsuit is about minority-owned companies receiving fair treatment. “We didn’t build this brand to sell it,” added Snoop Dogg.
