Afro Nation Detroit 2024 was a two-day festival that brought the best of Afro music to the heart of Detroit, the birthplace of Motown and techno. Held on August 17-18 at Bedrock’s Douglass Site, the event featured top Afrobeat, hip-hop, R&B, dancehall, gqom, and amapiano artists. This historic location, once home to legends like Diana Ross and Smokey Robinson, was transformed into a vibrant hub of cultural celebration, uniting artists and fans from across the Black diaspora.
The festival kicked off with electrifying performances, despite weather delays on the first day. DJ Marine and King Promise set the tone with energetic sets, followed by unforgettable shows from artists like Rema and Shenseea. Day 2 saw even larger crowds, with standout performances from Ruger, Asake, and PARTYNEXTDOOR, who closed the event with a powerful R&B set. The Piano People stage, featuring artists like Uncle Waffles and Musa Keys, kept the party going all weekend, often rivaling the main stage’s energy.
Afro Nation Detroit showcased the incredible talent of rising stars and established icons alike. Shenseea, fresh off her North American tour, delivered a sizzling performance, while Ayra Starr captivated the audience with her magnetic stage presence and dynamic energy. The festival was a celebration of Afro music’s global influence, leaving attendees with memories of unforgettable performances and a renewed sense of cultural unity.
