Green Day’s Saviors Tour hit an unexpected snag during their performance at Comerica Park in Detroit on September 4th. Just as the band began the bridge of their iconic song “Longview,” they abruptly left the stage, leaving fans to sing along in their absence. According to sources, the sudden exit was prompted by security spotting an unauthorized drone near the stage. The band paused the show for approximately 10 minutes while the situation was addressed.
After the delay, frontman Billie Joe Armstrong returned to the stage, assuring the crowd of nearly 41,000 that the show would go on. Armstrong, full of energy, encouraged fans to put their phones away and focus on the moment. He powered through “Welcome to Paradise,” declaring, “Ain’t no motherf—er that’s gonna stop us.” Green Day later posted an apology on social media, explaining that the stadium’s security team had acted out of an abundance of caution, and the Detroit Police Department quickly resolved the issue.
Green Day’s Saviors Tour, which celebrates the anniversaries of American Idiot and Dookie, continues across North America, with support from The Smashing Pumpkins, Rancid, and The Linda Lindas. The band is performing both American Idiot and Dookie in full at each show, bringing a nostalgic twist to their latest live performances.
