Linkin Park’s recent reunion has sparked mixed reactions, particularly from Chester Bennington’s family. Susan Eubanks, Bennington’s mother, expressed feeling “betrayed” by the band for not informing her about their plans to reunite with a new vocalist, Emily Armstrong of Dead Sara. She discovered the news online, leaving her upset, especially upon hearing Armstrong sing Bennington’s parts. Eubanks believes this move is hurtful, claiming it feels like an erasure of her son’s legacy.
Adding to the tension, Eubanks alleged that guitarist Mike Shinoda once threatened to replace Bennington with a female singer before his passing. She said this deeply hurt Bennington during rehearsals. Jaime Bennington, Chester’s son, also criticized the reunion, accusing the band of diminishing his father’s legacy. He later faced backlash from some fans but stood firm in his stance against Armstrong’s involvement with Linkin Park.
While some fans welcome the band’s return after a seven-year hiatus, others share the concerns voiced by Bennington’s family. Armstrong’s past connections to controversial figures have only added to the backlash. Eubanks suggests that moving forward with new songs instead of revisiting Bennington’s work would have been a better approach.
