The Cure may have finally confirmed the release of their first album in 16 years through mysterious postcards sent to fans. These postcards appear to reveal the album’s title, Songs of a Lost World, along with a release date of November 1, 2024, marked by Roman numerals. Speculation about the band’s new project gained momentum after their social media profiles were recently updated, and now fans are excited for the long-anticipated follow-up to their 2008 album 4:13 Dream.
In addition to the cryptic postcards, The Cure recently released a special double A-side vinyl featuring live versions of two new songs, “And Nothing Is Forever” and “I Can Never Say Goodbye,” recorded during their 2022 tour. Proceeds from the vinyl sales will benefit the climate action charity Earth Percent, founded by Brian Eno. This vinyl release and the postcards have fueled excitement for the album, which frontman Robert Smith described as having a darker tone, influenced by personal loss. Smith noted in past interviews that the delays were due to his perfectionism, but fans are eager to experience the upcoming project.
While The Cure is preparing for their new LP, band member Roger O’Donnell recently shared that he was diagnosed with a rare form of lymphoma in 2023 but has since recovered. His health update brings hope as the band moves forward with new music and projects after a long hiatus.
