London Calling Podcast Yana Bolder
Mariah Carey recently expressed her frustration over not releasing her 1995 grunge album Someone’s Ugly Daughter during an episode of the Las Culturistas podcast. Nearly 30 years ago, while working on her album Daydream, Carey recorded the alt-rock LP with her band to blow off steam. “I’m so mad I haven’t done that yet,” she shared, hinting that fans may finally get to hear it. Although originally released under the pseudonym Chick with Clarissa Dane on vocals, Carey has since found the version featuring her own voice.
In her 2020 memoir The Meaning of Mariah Carey, the pop legend revealed that Someone’s Ugly Daughter was a fun, rebellious project, and she’s still contemplating how to release it. Suggestions to drop it independently have piqued her interest, and Carey is excited about the possibility of collaborating with other artists on this long-hidden album. She teased that “you will hear it” and hinted at more surprises surrounding the project.
As Carey prepares for her 2024 holiday tour, she’s also celebrating the 20th anniversary of her landmark album The Emancipation of Mimi. Fans are eagerly anticipating both her upcoming performances and the potential release of her long-lost grunge album, showcasing a different side of the iconic singer.
