ONE N’ ONLY Reaches New Heights Fusing J-Pop and Latin Music in Their ‘Fiesta’ EP

The Japanese dance and vocal group ONE N’ ONLY has released their third EP, Fiesta, marking another significant step in their evolving sound. Known for blending J-pop and K-pop to create their unique “JK-pop” style, they introduced a new fusion called “Jatin pop,” which merges J-pop and Latin music. The Fiesta EP, released on October 2, 2023, pushes boundaries even further, incorporating diverse genres like amapiano, resulting in a dynamic and energetic collection of tracks.

The lead song, “Fiesta,” was created to energize the group’s autumn tour and has quickly become a fan favorite. Members HAYATO and TETTA emphasized that the song’s infectious tempo, upbeat lyrics, and crowd-participation sections were designed to transform live shows into real parties. The choreography, crafted by KAITA, is fun and easy to follow, ensuring fans can join in during live performances. Since the introduction of their Jatin pop style, songs like “EVOL” and “DOMINO” have connected with audiences through Latin-inspired rhythms, and “Fiesta” continues that tradition.

The group credits their recent 47-prefecture tour of Japan as a transformative experience. During this tour, they honed their live performance skills and developed a deeper connection with their fans. EIKU noted how the energy of the crowds has grown stronger, with more vocal audience participation, which has further enhanced the group’s stage presence. The challenges they faced, such as venue changes and nonstop filming, pushed them to adapt quickly and focus on delivering the best performances possible.

In addition to Fiesta, the EP includes a range of exciting tracks, including the hard rock number “Burn it Out,” which allows the group to channel their energetic, rock-driven performance style. REI and HAYATO worked closely with their music producer JUNE on the EP’s creative aspects, blending Japanese and Western musical influences in tracks like “R.U.S.H.” EIKU also highlighted the use of amapiano rhythms in “Too Much,” which adds a fresh, dynamic element to their footwork and choreography.

Overall, ONE N’ ONLY’s Fiesta EP is a testament to the group’s artistic growth and their ability to merge musical styles from around the world. Their seamless fusion of J-pop, Latin, and other global influences sets them apart as a truly “one and only” group, paving the way for their continued success on both the Japanese and international music scenes. Fans can expect even more genre-blending, energetic performances from the group as they continue to push boundaries in the world of music and dance.
