GloRilla’s smash hit “TGIF” has been named the Best Song of the Year by TIME in their annual roundup. The Memphis rapper claimed the top spot with her empowering anthem, beating out tracks like Beyoncé’s “Riiverdance,” Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” and Kehlani’s “After Hours.”
“For GloRilla, being single is a supernatural experience,” TIME reporter Stephen Kearse wrote. “Her bullish delivery elevates her mundane boasts — feeling good, looking ‘fine as hell,’ sporting a fresh mani-pedi — into titanic flexes. This ode to Friday clubbing isn’t self-empowering: It’s a display of power.”
The song’s seismic bass and cinematic horn loop evoke imagery of Godzilla rising from the Pacific, perfectly complementing Big Glo’s commanding lyrics.

“TGIF” gained even more traction over the summer when Rihanna shared a playful video lip-syncing to the track. With A$AP Rocky hilariously chiming in, “Where my drink at, man? I’m too old for this,” the video catapulted the song to viral status.
Rihanna isn’t the only star cheering GloRilla on. Kamala Harris referenced her music during her campaign, and Taylor Swift applauded her as rap’s rising “IT” girl.
2024 has been a standout year for the Memphis native. Billboard crowned her the hottest female rapper of the year, highlighting her resilience after a quieter 2023.
Singles like “Yeah Glo!” and “Wanna Be” (featuring Megan Thee Stallion) set the tone for her comeback, while “TGIF” cemented her position as a chart-topping powerhouse.
Her debut album, GLORIOUS, opened at No. 5 on the Billboard 200, selling 69,000 album-equivalent units and doubling the performance of her spring mixtape, Ehhthang Ehhthang.
With her authentic lyrics and magnetic energy, GloRilla continues to redefine what it means to be a rap icon. From Rihanna’s viral support to accolades from TIME and Billboard, it’s clear she’s just getting started.
