Lil Baby Shares Why He 'Hates' His 2022 Album 'It's Only Me' & Discusses Upcoming Projects

Atlanta, GALil Baby has openly shared his feelings about his 2022 album, It’s Only Me, revealing that he wasn’t fully behind the project despite its commercial success. In a recent Complex cover story released on January 15, Baby admitted that the pressure from his record label played a significant role in the album’s release.

“I didn’t even want to put It’s Only Me out at the time, because I wasn’t ready,” Lil Baby explained. “I wasn’t in [the right] headspace. Those were songs I was just making, but it was nothing that I really loved, and nothing I even really liked.” Despite his feelings toward the album, It’s Only Me still became a commercial hit, securing Baby’s third consecutive platinum album and debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Although Baby wasn’t fully invested in It’s Only Me, his musical career has continued to soar. His recent album, WHAM, which was released on January 3, topped the Billboard 200 for the week ending January 18. Featuring collaborations with artists such as Travis Scott, Future, Young Thug, GloRilla, Rod Wave, Rylo, and 21 Savage, WHAM has been praised for its high-energy, “turnt” vibe. The album focuses on themes of luxury, fast cars, and a lavish lifestyle, as Lil Baby explained during his interview with Lil Yachty on the A Safe Place podcast in December.

Lil Baby also teased another album, Dominique, set for release on February 25, 2025, which he describes as a more personal, introspective project. In his Instagram post on January 12, Baby shared the stats for WHAM and wrote, “See yall again in a couple weeks ‘Dominique’ The Album 2-?-25.”

“I still put some of the songs I was gonna use for Dominique on WHAM ’cause I know my fanbase really want to hear them certain songs,” he said. “WHAM is more me on some young n-gga shit — fast cars, girls, jewelry, money. You know, the turnt lifestyle.” But Dominique will be a shift in direction. “And Dominique is more the serious me, more personal. That’s a part of the new journey I’m on. I hate the word vulnerable, but I’m gonna be more open to my fans and my audience.”
