A$AP Rocky has been found not guilty on all charges in his felony assault trial. The rapper was accused of shooting A$AP Relli in November 2021. The trial, which started on January 24, concluded after nearly three weeks on February 14.
The jury deliberated for around three hours on February 18 before reaching a verdict. When the decision was announced, cheers erupted in the courtroom. Overcome with emotion, Rocky jumped over the barrier to embrace his family in the front row.
As he exited, Rocky expressed gratitude to the jurors. “Thank y’all for saving my life. Thank y’all for making the right decision,” he said.
Rihanna, Rocky’s partner, attended the trial several times. On February 13, she brought their two sons, RZA (2 years old) and Riot (1 year old), showing strong family support.
The prosecution, led by Paul Przelomiec, argued that the case hinged on whether Rocky’s gun was real or fake. Rocky maintained that the firearm was only a prop.
Initially, he faced two felony charges of assault with a semiautomatic firearm. A conviction could have resulted in a 24-year prison sentence. However, prosecutors intended to recommend an 8- to 10-year term. The judge instructed jurors that self-defense would be a valid argument if Rocky reasonably believed he was in danger.
On February 7, A$AP Twelvyy, a member of A$AP Mob, testified in support of Rocky. He was questioned about the meaning of AWGE, Rocky’s creative agency and label. The name’s meaning has remained a mystery for over a decade. When pressed for an answer, Twelvyy hesitated. In a surprising move, Rocky interrupted from the defense table, saying, “Don’t say it.” The agency’s official site enforces secrecy with two simple rules: “1) Never reveal what AWGE means. 2) When in doubt, always refer to rule #1.”
Rocky waived his right to testify in his own defense. Judge Arnold confirmed this decision, asking, “Do you in fact waive your right to testify?” Rocky responded, “I do in fact, Your Honor.”
This case has been one of the most closely watched trials in recent hip-hop history. Fans, legal experts, and fellow artists followed every update. Now, with his acquittal, Rocky can move forward with his music and creative projects.
