The recent sale of Biggie Smalls’ music catalog has sparked outrage and concern among fans and insiders alike. Diddy’s former bodyguard, Gene Deal, has publicly slammed the deal, claiming that the late rapper’s family, including his children, will not benefit from the massive payout.

A $100 Million Deal with No Family Benefits

Speaking on The Art of Dialogue, Gene Deal accused Wayne Barrow and Mark Pitts, representatives of Biggie’s estate, of exploiting the late rapper’s legacy. He claimed that the sale of Biggie’s publishing and marketing rights could bring in as much as $100 million, but the earnings may not go to Biggie’s kids or his recently deceased mother, Voletta Wallace.

Deal expressed his frustration, saying:

“Knowing this lady was sick and she was in hospice, these guys went ahead and worked out deals to allegedly sell Big’s publishing, marketing, and rights to everything.”

He further explained that Barrow and Pitts, once affiliated with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records, are looking to profit from the catalog sale. According to Deal, these individuals took over Biggie’s business dealings after his death in 1997 and have remained in control ever since.

Biggie’s Family Concerns and Ongoing Controversy

Biggie, also known as The Notorious B.I.G., had two children: T’yanna and Christopher Jr. It remains unclear how much, if any, of the money from the sale will reach them. Deal believes that Barrow and Pitts are using their long-standing positions to secure profits for themselves.

Additionally, Deal claimed that Voletta Wallace, who passed away last month, never trusted Diddy and avoided him at public events. He suggested that she might have harbored suspicions about Diddy’s involvement in her son’s tragic death — a murder that remains unsolved nearly 30 years later.

Primary Wave’s Role and Deal Details

According to The Hollywood Reporter, half of Biggie’s publishing rights are on the verge of being sold to Primary Wave, a company known for handling the catalogs of legendary artists like Prince, Whitney Houston, and Bob Marley. The deal, reportedly worth around $100 million, covers publishing rights but not master recordings, which could fetch an additional $30 to $50 million.

While some sources suggest the total value of the sale might fall short of $100 million, the timing of the deal has raised eyebrows, given Voletta Wallace’s recent passing. As the former executor of Biggie’s estate, her death left Barrow and Pitts in charge of the negotiations.
