J-T shared exciting news on social media this Monday (Jan. 22) by posting what seems to be the cover art for his upcoming song. The photo, taken by Charlotte Rutherford, shows Timberlake looking at a beautiful sunset over a canyon, with his back to the camera.

He captioned the photo with “1.25,” letting his fans know that the new song, titled “Selfish,” will be released this Friday (Jan. 25). Timberlake had previously performed this R&B-influenced song live during his concert in Memphis on Jan. 19. Some of the lyrics include, “So if I get jealous, I can’t help it/ I want every bit of you, I guess I’m selfish.”

On Twitter, Timberlake confirmed the title of the new project and also shared a trailer for his upcoming sixth album, revealing that it’s called “Everything I Thought It Was.” Similar to the cover art, Timberlake is facing away in the trailer while a narrator, Benicio Del Toro, wonders why he won’t turn around, saying, “Oh, there’s Justin! Why won’t he turn around? What the f— is he staring at?”

This upcoming single will be Timberlake’s first solo release since 2018’s “Man of the Woods,” which debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. The 10-time Grammy winner is scheduled to be the musical guest on Saturday Night Live the day after “Selfish” is released, with Dakota Johnson hosting the episode.
