Liza Minnelli is preparing to tell her story her way. The legendary singer and actress is set to release a memoir in spring 2026, finally answering the long-standing calls for her to share her incredible journey. “Since I was old enough to put pencil to paper, people asked me to write books about my career … my life … my loves … my family,” said Minnelli in an announcement from her publisher, Grand Central Publishing. “Absolutely not! ‘Tell it when I’m gone!’ Was my philosophy. So, why did I change my mind? A sabotaged appearance at the Oscars, a film with twisted half-truths, and a miniseries that just didn’t get it right made by people who didn’t know my family, and don’t really know me. Finally, I was mad as hell! Over dinner one night, I decided, it’s my own damn story … I’m gonna share it with you because of all the love you’ve given me.”

The memoir, which includes contributions from Pulitzer Prize winners Heidi Evans and Josh Getlin, as well as Minnelli’s longtime friend and music historian Michael Feinstein, promises to be a riveting account of her life. Minnelli turned to Feinstein for help, saying, “We’ve been joined at the hip for 40 years. As Ambassador of the Great American Songbook and my absolute favorite collaborator, Michael’s one of the greats, he’s razor-sharp and, and he tells the truth. That’s important because, as I fly towards my eighth decade of living, memories differ… This tome has a unique place in history. Most of you don’t know how far back we go. The Minnellis have been in show business for literally hundreds of years!”

The book will chronicle Minnelli’s path from her early years as the daughter of Judy Garland and Vincente Minnelli, to her Oscar-winning role as Sally Bowles in Cabaret, and beyond. It will delve into her struggles with substance abuse and serious illness, and her late-career resurgence as Lucille Austero on Arrested Development. The memoir aims to offer an intimate look at Minnelli’s life, revealing the raw and triumphant experiences that have made her one of the most compelling performers in entertainment history. As Grand Central’s senior vice president Colin Dickerman put it, “She is now, after a life of many dizzying triumphs and some terrifying lows, finally ready to tell it herself.”
