The video opens with a sinister lullaby before Carpenter’s character embarks on a bloody quest against her ex-boyfriend’s new love, played by Ortega. A twisted, gory catfight unfolds, with both women repeatedly coming back from the dead, using everything from hospital defibrillators to voodoo dolls in their brutal showdown. The visual’s climax involves a steamy makeout session between the two, ending in a tragic yet darkly humorous twist.

Directed by Dave Meyers, this marks the third music video of Carpenter’s Short n’ Sweet era. The album, her sixth studio effort, follows her 2022 release Emails I Can’t Send, which reached No. 23 on the Billboard 200. With its cinematic quality and unexpected plot twists, “Taste” is a standout addition to Carpenter’s growing repertoire of visually striking music videos.
