Mark Moffatt, a revered guitarist, producer, and engineer, passed away on September 6, 2024, after battling pancreatic cancer for a year. His extensive career saw him working with top artists like The Saints, Keith Urban, Tim Finn, and Yothu Yindi, shaping both Australian and global music scenes. Moffatt’s influence on the industry was profound, as he was the leading producer with the most tracks on the APRA Top 30 Australian Songs list and produced 15 ARIA Hall of Fame inductees.

Hailing from Queensland, Australia, Moffatt’s career skyrocketed when he produced The Saints’ “(I’m) Stranded,” a song pivotal to the punk movement. He then worked with EMI and TCS Studios before joining Festival Records, where he produced for many of Australia’s biggest music icons. Moffatt was also instrumental in championing Keith Urban’s career and produced Yothu Yindi’s hit “Treaty,” solidifying his status as an iconic figure in the industry.

In 1996, Moffatt relocated to Nashville, becoming APRA AMCOS’ first member relations representative in the city in 2014. Even in retirement, his passion for music continued, and he was finishing an album for his band KILO at the time of his passing. Moffatt is remembered for his kindness and dedication to family, leaving behind a legacy that will continue to inspire generations of musicians.
