Demi Lovato Discusses Ongoing Recovery and Gender Expression in Emotional Interview

In a recent Podcrushed interview, Demi Lovato opened up about their ongoing battle with an eating disorder and their journey toward body acceptance. Now five years into recovery from bulimia, Lovato shared how working with a nutritionist and therapist has helped them find peace with their body. They emphasized that cooking meals at home feels like a powerful step in reclaiming control, stating, “This body saved my life” after their overdose.

The conversation also touched on Lovato’s Child Star Hulu documentary, which dives into their struggles with fame and interviews other child stars like Christina Ricci and Drew Barrymore. Lovato recently released a companion single, “You’ll Be OK, Kid,” complementing the film’s themes of healing and resilience. During the interview, Gossip Girl star Penn Badgley joined Lovato for a moving rendition of their 2021 hit “Anyone.”

Lovato also reflected on their gender expression, feeling comfortable embracing both masculine and feminine energies. After coming out as nonbinary in 2021, they found freedom in shedding the hyper-feminine image they had maintained for years, cutting their hair and embracing a balanced identity. This newfound self-acceptance continues to guide Lovato’s ongoing journey.
