The ongoing RICO trial of Atlanta rapper Young Thug has ignited fresh drama after fellow rapper Slimelife Shawty testified that Young Stoner Life (YSL), Thug’s label, operates as a gang. During his testimony on October 23, 2024, Shawty, who has collaborated with artists like Future and Lil Durk, admitted to treating YSL as a gang in the past, fueling speculation about snitching in the case.
When asked if YSL was more than just a music label, Slimelife Shawty replied, “Some people treat it like that.” He later clarified, “I treated it that way, before,” admitting that he personally viewed YSL as a gang at one time. His statements led to accusations of snitching, especially from online critics who felt his testimony could be damaging to Young Thug’s defense.
Slimelife Shawty quickly responded to the allegations on social media, dismissing claims that he had snitched. He posted on his Instagram Stories, stating, “Ain have to tell on nobody,” and criticized those celebrating his testimony as a betrayal. He went on to say, “You n-ggas belong to (Get Low Records) cus that’s all y’all ever did,” alluding to his critics’ lack of loyalty.
The controversy comes amid a complex and controversial trial in which prosecutors allege that YSL is an organized crime group responsible for various violent acts in Atlanta, including murder and robbery. As tensions rise in court, Judge Paige Reese Whitaker is now considering a mistrial after a procedural mishap involving the display of a social media post.
The issue occurred when Slimelife Shawty was shown an unredacted Instagram post on the witness stand containing the hashtag #FreeQua, referring to one of Young Thug’s co-defendants, Marquavius Huey. Although the post displayed to the jury had the hashtag redacted, Shawty inadvertently read the unredacted version, prompting defense attorney Nicole Westmoreland to call for a mistrial.
“We’re not going to be able to unring this bell, your honor,” Westmoreland said, emphasizing the gravity of the slip-up. Judge Whitaker admonished the prosecution for the mistake, stating, “It’s just sloppy… It should have occurred to you,” and warned that the case could be retried if a mistrial is declared.
As the trial unfolds, the fate of Young Thug and his co-defendants remains uncertain, while tensions surrounding accusations of snitching continue to grow.
