Eminem is reportedly in talks to join an ownership group aiming to bring a WNBA team to Detroit. The iconic rapper is exploring the opportunity alongside big names like NFL quarterback Jared Goff and NBA legends Grant Hill and Chris Webber. This exciting news has sparked conversations about expanding women’s basketball in the city known for its rich sports culture.
According to TMZ, Eminem has held early discussions about becoming a part-owner of the potential expansion team. The WNBA, which currently has 13 teams, plans to expand to 15 by 2026. Portland and Toronto have already secured their spots. By 2028, at least one more team will join, and Detroit is making a strong case to be next.
WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert is expected to make a decision within the next year. If successful, the new team would mark Detroit’s return to the league after the Detroit Shock relocated to Tulsa (now the Dallas Wings) in 2010.

It’s not just about sports for Eminem; it’s about giving back to Detroit. Fans and fellow Detroiters alike are thrilled at the possibility of having the rap legend involved in this ambitious project.
In other news, hip-hop legend Redman recently shared how Eminem spent three hours texting him about his album Muddy Waters Too. During an interview with Ambrosia For Heads, Redman described how Em was blown away by the project, sending texts after each track while at the gym.
Redman praised Eminem for his enthusiasm, calling it an honor to get feedback from someone he respects so much. Em’s admiration for Redman is well-known, as he has consistently placed Redman among his favorite rappers, even mentioning him in the hit song ‘Till I Collapse.
This wholesome exchange between two rap icons shows the strong bond and mutual respect in the hip-hop community. Fans love seeing Em continue to support his peers and stay connected to the culture.
