Sean Kingston was released from police custody on Wednesday, June 5, after posting a $100,000 bond, according to documents obtained by Billboard and initially reported by TMZ.
The “Beautiful Girls” singer used his mortgage as collateral for the bond. After his release, Kingston took to Instagram to express his relief, stating it was “great to be home,” and he thanked God, his friends, family, and legal team.
This news follows Kingston’s arrest in California, where he signed papers waiving his right to fight extradition to Florida. On Sunday, June 2, he was booked into Broward County jail, according to the Associated Press. Both Kingston and his 61-year-old mother, Janice Turner, face charges of committing over $1 million worth of fraud in Florida.
Kingston was initially detained on May 23 after a performance at Fort Irwin, an Army training base in California’s Mojave Desert. His mother was arrested the same day when Broward County Sheriff’s deputies and the Davie Police SWAT team raided his rental mansion in Fort Lauderdale. According to NBC News, the warrants allege that from October to March, the pair stole nearly $500,000 in jewelry, over $200,000 from Bank of America, $160,000 from an Escalade dealer, more than $100,000 from First Republic Bank, and $86,000 from a custom bed manufacturer.
Their attorney, Robert Rosenblatt, has expressed confidence in a favorable outcome, stating, “We look forward to addressing these [charges] in court and are confident of a successful resolution for Shawn and his mother.”
