Jin has made his first public appearance following the completion of his mandatory service in the South Korean military. On Thursday (June 13), he took the stage at the 2024 BTS Festa, where he personally greeted ARMY by hugging 1,000 fans.
The event, held in Seoul to celebrate the boy band’s 11th anniversary, saw the 31-year-old K-pop star hosting his own offline event at Jamsil Arena. He began by individually welcoming each person in a long line of eager fans with a quick embrace or handshake. Jin also engaged with new TikTok trends that had gone viral during his absence and performed his solo singles “The Astronaut” and “Super Tuna,” singing the second verse of “Super Tuna” live for the first time. Additionally, he performed BTS’ “Moon” for the audience.
This appearance came just one day after Jin officially completed his 18-month enlistment, during which he served as an assistant drill instructor. His bandmates RM, V, Jung Kook, SUGA, Jimin, and J-Hope are still fulfilling their military duties but were granted leave to celebrate Jin’s accomplishment on Wednesday (June 12).
“I cried during the ceremony,” Jin shared in a Weverse livestream later that day. “But the last year and six months were so fun. It’s such a relief to have met so many amazing people.”
Although the other six members of BTS could not attend the Festa, they each wrote letters to ARMY that were revealed at the event. Full-band activities are anticipated to resume in 2025, and Jin’s presence at the anniversary celebration signals “the start of a highly anticipated next chapter for BTS,” according to a release.
